When I was young, I took things for granted. I believe many other kids did so, as well. One thing we took for granted was education. We never thought about how lucky we were to be educated. We never thought about how lucky we were to have teachers who cared for our growth so much, and poured their heart and soul into their lessons. Then slowly as I grew up, I began to appreciate things around me more. I realized that being literate is a not a right, but a gift.

However, remember that no matter how bad your situation may seem, there are tens of thousands of things to be grateful for in life. Most of the items, if not all, will apply to you too. Feel free to add on in the comments box below. I would love to read them.

Your parents — for giving birth to you. Because if there is no them, there will not be you. Your family — for being your closest kin in the world.

Your friends — for being your companions in life.

Sense of sight — for letting you see the colors of life. Sense of hearing — for letting you hear trickle of rain, the voices of your loved ones, and the harmonious chords of music. Sense of touch — for letting you feel the texture of your clothes, the breeze of the wind, the hands of your loved ones.

Sense of smell — for letting you smell scented candles, perfumes, and beautiful flowers in your garden. Sense of taste — for letting you savor the sweetness of fruits, the saltiness of seawater, the sourness of pickles, the bitterness of bitter gourd, and the spiciness of chili. Your speech — for giving you the outlet to express yourself.

Your heart — for pumping blood to all the parts of your body every second since you were born; for giving you the ability to feel.I hope this message finds you, your family and friends well. I remember hearing this sequence on tapes back during my short lived GD tour life and I always thought it was really majestic.

I think Vince Welnick does great on this medley and I think that it's a really cool choice for The Grateful Dead to integrate into the set at that period. Posted by MH at PM 6 comments.

It's kind of uncomfortable for me to review Brent Mydland because I love him as keyboardist for The Grateful Dead but never actually saw him live with GD. As a result I don't have any powerful memories associated with dancing to his originals at shows and maybe that's why I am not huge into his original songs. But Just a Little Light is a pretty cool tune, one of my favorite of Brent's originals. It has a tense brooding feel and is built upon a minor key.

Jerry plays his dynamic filter sound which really makes this Mydland tune "seem like a Grateful Dead song" some of his other songs just don't fit in with The Dead's music and it seems like they are playing backing band for a guest singer.

The song was played 20 odd times only in and It was primarily in the middle to late 1st set. Below is a version which I think is a fine rendition of the song. This is their 5th time playing it from July of Just about 24 years ago this month. Thanks Taste4phree for the upload. Posted by MH at PM 1 comments. I don't have a terrible lot to say about Johnny B Good as far as the Grateful Dead goes, they would play it and play it well, usually at the end of shows.

This song represents the 'fun rock and roll band' side of The Grateful Dead as opposed to the cerebral side that brings you songs like Estimated Prophet or Slipknot. I like hearing these types of songs on bootlegs. For people at shows who are far out of their minds, as song like this might help them come back down to earth at the end of the set.

This song was performed hundreds of time going all the way back to the band's earliest days and usually lasted only a few minutes. You know the movie is over, and there's not going to be any more surprises, but you stick around to watch the credits because you liked the movie so much, you don't want it to end.

Well, I am done sewing, but am looking for matching beads for the neckline and bracelets. I did not realize it would be quite a challenge! I am going ahead and sending the dress out tomorrow and will just have to put beads on the day before the wedding!

In these pictures the colors look different, but I assure you they are the same material! I decided I wanted to make Scarlet a matching dress so we can get pictures taken together in them! So I looked for a dress that would have a similar neck line and found this one! So she decided it would also be her Easter dress. I personally liked it without the bow in front, but Scarlet wanted it in a big bow : I also made a cute little spring dress for Scarlet that I do not yet have a picture of!

She is wearing it to school tomorrow so I will take a picture and post it next time! Thanks for visiting my blog! Labels: bridesmaideaster dressspring. I have finally gotten done with the majority of my Mother's new wardrobe! Only a couple more to go!

This a pretty neat piece. I made it with a semi-sheer material which makes it difficult to hem. Here is an example of one of the many ways you can wear this shirt. It is wrapped to the back and thrown over the shoulder from the other side. Very cute and can be worn lots of different ways!! This next piece is similar to one of the jackets from my last post.

There are two major differences. There are three sleeve lengths and either the rounded front or the square front. I look forward to making a few more of them. This shirt was actually meant to be the wrap from above, however when I was cutting the material I messed up I took what I could from the material and came up with this shirt.

This was the first time I have made just a regular everyday shirt. It really turned out nice and I decided I needed to make myself a few of them.Compose a "Statement of Gratitude" Why are you grateful and what are you grateful for? This can be serious or funny. This vision urged me to hurry and thus I again jumped over the time into the wonderland of what was high above my potency to put in human words. So let me return back for making everything plain.

What are you grateful for? What does "Gratitude" mean to you? These were not the questions for musing, but the keys to the dreamland. The keys that were lost by me while I was trying to report what and why was not done by me till now.

The keys that were retrieved as I shifted from self to what I was grateful for - to you. The thoughts about the current hardships were immediately replaced with the hot Thank you! I forgot all my limitations and my sick body became the brave herald.April 1, The Shortest Dark Stars Dark Star was not a song known for its brevity -- it was designed to have expansive, open-ended jams.

Ironically, this will be a short post, since the Dead at the time hardly ever played short Dark Stars say, less than minutes. But this almost never happened. Even under the worst conditions, at Woodstock, they still jammed it out to an impressive 19 minutes.

So the rare occasions when they did shorten or abandon Dark Star may be worth investigating. The comparison is with other Dark Stars during these years, not the entire history of this song.

Dark Stars shortened by tapecuts are not considered here. These were probably normal-length Dark Stars as played, but are hard to judge on tape due to the giant cuts. In an odd irony, the longer Dark Stars became afterthe fewer lengthy tapecuts are found in them. Our journey begins in Naturally the Dark Stars in these circumstances were quick and compressed. Following a ragged Other One, the Cryptical reprise peters out after only 90 seconds as Garcia audibly loses interest and starts teasing Dark Star instead, until the rest of the band comes round.

Afterwards, the jam is quite sleepy and laid-back, not building to any peak; instead it gets quieter and more minimal until the second verse a few minutes later.

Sew Grateful

One trend that started in was the Dead abandoning Dark Star mid-jam and leaving it unfinished, jumping into another song without playing the second verse. I think Garcia breaks a string around the minute mark since he sits out the last three minutes, leaving the rest of the band to groove for a bit until they give way to a long drum break.

Stephen follows. A few more instances followed in In general, the only versions that year that are less than 20 minutes are due to tapecuts.

But in brief, the few versions from early in the year tend to be much shorter than Dark Stars, only minutes long. Sometimes in the Dead would play a song inside Dark Star and then return to the Dark Star jam, a trick they frequently pulled in the Other One. It was much less common in Dark Star — in fact they had only done it a couple times before:. I bring up this list here to ask whether these Dark Stars were shortened by the extra song segues — did we miss out on more Dark Star jamming that might have occurred?

In general, the answer is no: these Dark Stars are still average lengths for the tours they were played in. Usually the Dead pick up right where they left off once the middle song finishes, and even seem inspired by the interruption.

Instead, the Dark Stars became giants, regularly surpassing 30 minutes, and occasionally even reaching 40 minutes. This was the only time all year and the last time until that Dark Star and the Other One would be played in the same show.

Also released.
